If your pa meets the following conditions you can send it in without prior contact.
1. You have one of the ham radio linear amplifiers shown on my youtube under Amp repair guy.
2. You are a licensed amateur radio operator.
3. The Pa has no extreme modifications.
4. No one has tried to fix, after its failure.
We are no longer servicing Yaesu fl2100b , Tentec or Henry linear amplifiers.
Do not send your pa if you are going to pack yourself, it will most likely be destroyed during shipment. Any pa packed by the customer will be refused. Only exception is if all factory boxes are present, in good condition, taped on top and bottom, foam inserts are present and amplifier and all boxes are packed tight with no internal movement.
If no factory box is available, then must bring to a genuine fedex office. A genuine fedex office owned by fedex.
Prior to going to the store remove the tubes from the pa. If an amplifier with 3-500z tubes leaves anode dissipating caps attached to the top of the tubes. If an ameritron al811 or 811h you must tape the ceramic anode caps upside down under the parasitic board, with either electrical tape or painter's tape. Cut two 6 inch pieces prior to taping and take your time. If the anode caps dangle during shipping the braided strap can fray, caps could hit each other or hit the plate choke.
Always install all rf shield screws and cover screws for shipping. These screws help give structural support to the amplifier chassis.
When you arrive at fedex, ask for a foam in place fragile pack for the amplifier using the insta pack material.
For the tubes ask for a regular fragile pack, tubes oriented vertical. Do not let them combine the tube/tubes in the same box as the amplifier. They must be shipped separately.
If your pa uses 811 tubes, I will only service it if you upgrade to 572b tubes. The 572b tube is far superior to the 811. It is a direct drop in replacement, so no need to send your old 811 tubes to us.
I STRONGLY recommend fedex office, they are owned by fedex. If they pack your pa and something happens it would be very difficult for them to weasel out of paying a insurance claim.
If you do not have a fedex office near you to pack then you must contact me prior to sending your pa in for repair. I have been doing this a long time, this is the best method for packing and transportation I have found.
The cost of the packing is very cheap, you cannot buy the materials or pack it as well for what it costs.
The pa gets re packed by fedex for the return shipment, paid for by the customer. This again makes it difficult for them to weasel out of an insurance claim if an issue were to occur.
I always recommend the customer start a fedex account, it's free. You get a discount when you use the account.
